What is the purpose of this blog?

I am an atheist. I have never been ashamed to admit what my views are or unable to defend them. In fact, up until recently I didn't even have to talk about it. In my high-school religion was rarely a topic. In college, however, as strange as it seems, things changed. Probably because in college there are all kinds of people previous non-issues suddenly become important. That's what happened with my lack of religion.

I find it somewhat incredible that in this day and age people's perception changes once you drop the A-bomb. I recently had a serious argument with an Evangelist friend of mine, which started from her deep-seated mistrust for atheists and her religion-inspired opposition to equality. Another now-former friend and a Jehovah's Witness removed me from his Facebook friends and refuses to acknowledge my presence if he sees me on the street.

These two separate incidents made me wonder if religious people really think we atheists drink kittens' blood. That's how I decided to start this blog. The things we don't know always scare us the most. To quote MLK:
"Men often hate each other because they fear each other; they fear each other because they don't know each other; they don't know each other because they can not communicate; they can not communicate because they are separated."

I am prepared to share personal details about my life as an atheist, my beliefs and answer any questions anyone might have to show any religious person out there that we are neither "fools", nor "evil Satan worshipers."
